How to get an accounting job in Lebanon
What accounting and finance employers look for, from bookkeeping to audit, and how to show the tools and work you know.
Pick the kind of accounting you do
Accounting postings cover very different daily work. Match the title to the work you have done, and use the same words in your CV.
- Junior accountant or bookkeeper: entries, bank reconciliations, invoices, and petty cash.
- Accountant: month-end close, VAT returns, supplier and client accounts, and reports.
- Senior accountant or chief accountant: closing the books, financial statements, and managing juniors.
- Auditor: testing controls and statements for clients at an audit firm.
- Financial analyst or FP&A: budgets, forecasts, variance analysis, and reporting to management.
Name the tools
Employers filter on the software. List each one you have used for real work: SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, QuickBooks, or a local ERP. Say what you did in it, such as posting entries or running the monthly close.
Excel is expected. Name what you do with it: pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations, or building a monthly report. “Advanced Excel” alone does not tell them much.
Show the Lebanese side of the work
Local employers want to see Lebanese tax and compliance work. If you have prepared VAT returns, handled Ministry of Finance filings, or NSSF declarations, write it plainly.
Say if you have kept books in more than one currency. Many companies in Lebanon record in both USD and LBP, and someone who has handled that is easier to hire.
Certifications that help
A LACPA membership matters for audit and chief accountant roles in Lebanon. For regional and multinational roles, CPA, ACCA, and CMA are recognized. If you are studying for one, list it with the parts passed; employers count progress.
Put numbers under each role
Accounting CVs read better with scale and speed.
- “Closed the monthly books for three entities in five working days.”
- “Reconciled 12 bank accounts in USD and LBP each month.”
- “Built a cash-flow forecast that management used to plan supplier payments.”
Expect a test
Many accounting interviews include a short test: journal entries, a reconciliation, or an Excel task. Practice a few entries before the interview, and bring the terms you use daily into your answers.
